Young Heifer Scheme
The purpose of this programme is to aid young people in getting started with Dexter Cattle, by awarding heifer calves to programme participants on the basis of merit, future goals and the ability to care for the animal. Any Northern Ireland young person, ages 8 - 15 as of January 1st, 2012, who has access to suitable property to keep a Dexter may apply.
Each programme participant will be responsible for raising the calf, arranging for her to be bred (AI or naturally) with help from their NI Dexter Society mentor, and provide an annual report about their heifer at the annual NI Society meeting for two years.
Deadline to enter is 30th June 2012, and the recipient will be announced and heifer awarded on September 1st 2012 at the Gosford Show. All applications will be reviewed by an independent selection committee. Each programme participant will own their heifer jointly with the NI Dexter Society until completion of the programme, at which time the participant will receive full ownership of the heifer and her offspring.
